Moving Home
You may want to consider moving to a different home if:
- you are finding your home becoming too costly to run and difficult to manage,
- the number of people in the household has reduced (e.g. children have grown up and left home),
- or you may want to move to a different location to be nearer family or work
You can do this in many ways, Shian offers tenants the opportunity to:
- Transfer to another vacant Shian property
- Mutually exchange with a Shian tenant
- Mutually exchange with a tenant from another agency/council
- Relinquish your tenancy to move to a private property

Transfers/Mutual Exchanges
Any resident currently living in a Shian home may apply for a transfers or mutual exchanges with the exception of residents who live in agency managed schemes holding licenses. Both you and the tenant who is transferring, or exchanging property with you will need to meet with our eligibility criteria details of which can be found in Shian’s policies.
Shian is registered with HomeSwapper which is available to social housing tenants. You can register online at www.homeswapper.co.uk or you can contact moveUK on 0845 806 6161 or email info@moveuk.com. HomeSwapper is the UK’s biggest home swap community and has homes available all over the UK.
Relinquished tenancies
If you would like to relinquish your tenancy, you will need to give us a minimum of four weeks’ notice and ensure that your rent account is up-to-date.
You will also need to be available for an inspection of the property to be undertaken by our Maintenance and Housing Teams as there may be repairs that you may be liable for before you move.
If you are interested in any of the above, contact your housing officer to discuss the eligibility criteria and request a housing transfer form.
